Development of the false eyelash industry in Pingdu began in the 1970s. Nowadays, over 5,000 business entities and about 60,000 employees are involved in the local pillar industry. Every year, about 120 million pairs of false eyelashes produced in Pingdu are sold overseas, accounting for about 70% of global supply, bringing an annual output value of about 10 billion yuan (about 1.4 billion U.S. dollars).
